The Strangling of Persia: Story of the European Diplomacy and Oriental Intrigue That Resulted in the Denationalization of Twelve Million Mohammedans
Published in Hardcover by Mage Pub (June, 1987)
Average review score:

An American in Tehran; US exceptionalism & the Great-p.Shuster's work stands as a prime example of American exeptionalism when the US was still an exception in international relations. His story is a sad tale of an American realist/idealist who attempted to rise above the great-power rivalries to bring stability and autonomy to a budding democracy caught between strategic conciderations. Anyone farmilure with the US involvement in the coup to overthrow the popular goverment of Mossadiq in 1953 will notice the many parellels and sad ironies in the Shuster text. This book is also perfect as a background to the relationship between the US and the Persian people. Shuster's work is a truely American attack on the European empirial system, and a scathing critic of the culture of diplomacy. Shuster was an exceptional man writing in an exceptional time, but it was exceptions such as Shuster which generated America's exceptional image throughout the world. Robert S. Glase

Strongbow: The Story of Richard & Aoife
Published in Paperback by The O'Brien Press (August, 1993)
Average review score:

looking for strongbow; swims oceans; walks desertsI am looking for a fictional book which I believe is about Strongbow. The book has a stylized "strongbow" figure on the cover in yellow or gold. The story is basically this: the main character (Strongbow? or someone deluded into believing he is Strongbow?)gets tired of life, strips naked and leaves to travel the world while attending a party for the Queen. Once in the middle east, he swims oceans and walks across deserts while deep in thought. He enjoys a simple nomadic life with a bedouin wife and fathers children by her. If I remember correctly, he has a very long life .. or does not ever die. Don't know authors name, nor the book's title. Can anyone help me find it? I read it in 1986 and gave it away .. not realizing I really enjoyed and should have kept it!

Not for the lazy scholar, but a wealth of Christ-centered wisdom and insight from one of the last century's greatest preachers. This big book is a breath of fresh air in sharp contrast to the humanistic pap of today.

Survival: Could You Be an Otter?
Published in Hardcover by Ideals Childrens Books (September, 1989)
Average review score:

kids love it; makes you think.I wish they would reprint this entire Survival! series, darn it. We found the Otter one in a second-hand store and my 3- and 5-year-old adore it. What you do is, as you read, you have to choose the animal's actions out of two or more options. Will he go up the bank or try to catch the slow fish, etc.? Whichever action you choose has a consequence. It is sort of a naturalist's version of Goosebumps "You Choose the Scare", and much more informative. The author makes it clear that pollution and encroachment of humans on animal habitat make for a greater percentage of dangerous choices, which is why some types of wildlife are disappearing. Even after my little boy "learned" which choices were safest for the otter to make, ensuring a "survival" outcome, he still wanted to read it again and again. Though my preschoolers liked it, I would actually recommend it for ages 4-8.
